‘Nature is divine, protect it’

LUDHIANA: The Gursikh Family Club, which has a membership of around 100 families, is ready to celebrate Sikh Environment Day on March 14. Their itinerary includes a rally, cleanliness drive, seminars, painting competitions and discussions at local schools and colleges.

“We have nearly 100 families registered in the club, which was formed 10 years ago. All of them will participate in the celebrations. We have joined hands with Eco-Sikh to observe Sikh Environment Day. We want the next generation to save natural resources and respect the environment,” Amanpreet Singh-MD a resident of BRS Nagar and managing director of Gursikh Family Club, said.

Sukhjinder Singh, a resident of Lajpat Nagar and another club member, said, “We have planned a big eco-rally on March 10. We also expect a turnout of more than 400 club members and other city residents. It is necessary to sensitize residents of Ludhiana as we have hundreds of cars and factories here.”

Gursikh Family Club members hold a monthly meeting at a public place and contribute in various causes like highlighting burning environment issues, human rights, raising voice against social evils and fighting for the rights of women.

“We have deliberately chosen Sunday, March 10, to ensure that maximum school and college students can participate in the rally. We have also planned to organize a painting competition, debate and declamation contest on the topic of the environment,” Prabhjot Singh-Gen.Sec. a resident of Aman Nagar and club member, told TOI.
